Analysis methods for variable sources and application to H.E.S.S. data(pdf)
The search and analysis of variable gamma ray sources (E>30GeV) is one of the major challenges of the H.E.S.S. Telescopes. Besides hardware requirements a sensitive analysis method for the data taken from this kind of sources is inalienable. Here the so called Transient Analysis and its application are presented. It is implemented in the H.E.S.S. Paris Analysis chain and based on statistical tests on the arrival times of gamma events in the detector. With this methods one can examine a source for deviations from a constant emittance. After a successful implementation of the Transient Analysis into the Paris Analysis chain the next step is to check its reliability. By performing and analyzing source simulations one can compare their well known time dependent behavior to the analysis results. Aim of the present work is to use the Transient Analysis for a sensitive check of the H.E.S.S. data on source variability in the near future and to interpret the results in a reasonable way.
