Modern data mining in astroparticle physics(pdf)

Measurements of cosmic rays yield huge amounts of data. Searching for particular patterns is complicated by different kinds of backgrounds. Modern data mining techniques offer stable separation methods avoiding over-fitting and bias through cuts in multidimensional hyperspaces and validation mechanisms. This presentation aims to give a brief overview of signal background suppression methods using supervised machine learning algorithms.
